What is the Opera Portal?
Opera Portal is a fun, simple and contextualized service for organizing different types of content on the web. With more and more content being created online, it is becoming extremely difficult to keep track of all that’s happening around us. Keeping this problem in mind, we have worked long hours to bring the most relevant organization platform to you. However, we have not stopped there. We have also given you, the user, the ability to customize your own Portal and add, modify, delete content based on your preferences. We want you to better “Organize your web”.
What types of content are available on the Opera Portal?
We have added some default categories that we feel might be of interest to you. World News, Stocks, Financial News, Technology, Science, Music, Movies, Fashion and more have been included to give you content that is relevant and useful. Our goal is to bring you all the most relevant content for you on one single page. You will need to browse less to find all the information you need – you can manage it all on Opera Portal.
Is content localized for me?
Yes, the content is localized for every market individually. What this means is that we will bring you the best in News, Sports, movies, music and other content from your country. However, the language displayed on Portal will be determined by the default language chosen on your browser. So what this means in very simple words is that even though the content is customized to the country you are logging in from, the language will still be the language you are used to on the browser.
Can I create my own profile on Opera Portal?
Yes, you can and there are three ways you can do it, Create your own profile on Opera Portal. On the top-right side of the Portal you will find a ‘Sign Up’ Page to sign up for a new account. If you have a MyOpera username and password, you can use that to Log in. Alternatively, if you have an Open ID username and password, you can use that here as well.
Can I log in with my existing Google and Yahoo accounts?
This is a great question, and the answer is a loud Yes! We know how difficult it is with the numerous usernames and passwords that you have to remember on the web. So we have made it easy for you and given you the opportunity to log in with your existing Google or Yahoo accounts.
What are the advantages of Logging In?
Once you have logged in, you will be able to customize Opera Portal the way you want to see it. You can modify the contents, the colours, the feed headers, the tabs and just about any other element. Then you can log-in from any other computer and you will see your page as you had customized it. So you can have multiple computers, but with the capability to access the same content and page structure from all of them – just the way you like it.
What can I customize on Opera Portal?
There are many small and large elements that can be customized on Opera Portal. We have tried to outline some of them here… You can change the colours of each individual ‘content box’, Change the number of headlines shown on each one of these content boxes, Customize the name of the boxes Change the colour of each box Move the boxes over the entire layout by just dragging and dropping them one by one Change the Tab Names, Tab colours and Tab positions on top of the page. And a lot more – the most exciting way to find out is to log-in and start customizing your own page.
How do I add more content?
You can always click on the “+” button that you see on the Top-Right of the Portal. This will open up a new ‘pop-up’ page with options for adding multiple types of content. You can add content in 3 ways, Add Content from our Catalogue – we have multiple categories that already have some of the most popular feeds from across the globe and from your country. So make sure you check here first. Add Custom Contents – If you know of the XML or RSS address for a feed that you would like to add on your profile, please use this option. Import OPML – Feeds can be exported from various RSS feeds as an OPML format. We have built an OPML importer just for that – so that you can easily bring all your feeds from Google Reader, Netvibes or just about any other RSS reader and import them all to your favorite Opera Portal. What are the future plans for Opera Portal?
This is a question we love answering. We have some rather ambitious plans for the Portal. A short list of them have been mentioned below, Themes and Skins – This is a crucial feature that we have already started working on. We want to give you the ability to change the backgrounds and the themes of the Portal – we want you to be your own designer. Share Your Profile – In our closed alpha testing, this was one of the most requested features. We have always wanted to see the Portal as a source for you to share your favorite content with others. Organize your entire content from the web and send it to your friend or family member so that he/she can share the joy of the content you love. Web apps and Web Widgets – Our goal is to build the Portal into one of your most important web services. We intend on doing this by developing specific apps and widgets that you can add to your Portal profile. Keep your eyes glued in to know more. And a lot more. There are a lot of different features and functionalities that we will add to the Portal. We are excited about the potential of Opera Portal and our endeavor to help you organize all the data on the web. ‘Organize your web’.
What role can I play in the development process of Opera Portal?
We love it when the community helps us. We are building the platform for you and we invite you to play a role in this process. It could be something as simple as telling us what content feed or website you think we should add content from, tell us what features you would like to see or even tell us what article you liked best from any of the feeds. How is Opera Portal and MyOpera different?
MyOpera is an online community that has been built by Opera. The objective of this community is to bring people closer through blogging and sharing. Opera Portal is a platform that we have built that will help you organize your content on the web. We plan on integrating MyOpera features such as “status messages” and sharing capabilities into Portal. Therefore, we see a very distinct and clear path for these two attractive and unique services.
